It should be an interesting self-help manual . 😉

I doubt there would be the issues there are if was was about “self help”.

    • Sainter says:

No I meant it looks like Pell is launching a church manual on “how to” rather than “how to prevent”. 🙂

It’s interesting to see the media is on to the confessional. Apparently Ireland introduced laws making priests responsible for notifying police of paedophile confessions – not complying could mean a 5 year prison term. If they can do I see no reason why we can’t. Why should they be above the law? Especially when they have no proof that the confession to the Lawd is even being listen to.

Did you see Professor Patrick Parkinson on Lateline last night? (http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2012/s3633089.htm). He somewhat shredded Cardinal Pell’s statements about the abuse being in the past.
As you say, religions must be made accountable to earthly laws first and foremost.

    • Sainter says:

No I missed it last night; thx for the link, I’ll check it out right now. The abuse isn’t in the past, that’s absurd. While the same culture, the same antiquated celibacy rules remain it will continue. I read somewhere that the Eastern Catholic Church has hardly any paedophile complaints – they are allowed to get married. You’d think the Roman Catholic Church would wake up.

Pell is only interested in the “good name” and finanical viability of the church (and maybe a shot at being Pope ) not reforming it. The sooner he goes the better.
